I've been to a few bad baby showers in my life. For example the one where I ended up on my hands and knees with vaseline dabbed on my nose trying to pick up cotton balls. With my nose. This alone was not the problem. The problem was my sober state when asked to participate in this game. I'm not wild about games at baby showers, in fact they make me sweaty and shaky, so if you're looking for baby shower games you'll have to keep looking. However, if you're looking for resources and inspiration for baby showers I've spent a few weeks rounding up some lovely eye candy for just that purpose.
Hostess With the Mostess is a (newish) site maintained by Jennifer Sabranti, she started the site in early 2007 after being frustrated by the cutesy and terribly cheesy merchandise available for the events she had to host. Finally she decided to put together a site to share all her ideas and resources in a stylish way. The baby shower section offers some clever themes which do not involve dewy eyed teddy bears. The Due Date Shower is my favorite starting point, but the Bubble and Rubber Duck Brunch is also at the top of my list. I also think the general color theme set up could work well for a baby shower.
Martha Stewart is the prime site to browse for baby shower inspiration. I've often found myself wishing my sister would get pregnant just so I can throw her a baby shower. Maybe we'll just start with a bridal shower. On my list of favorites: the baby bird shower, the daisy shower and the French Countryside Shower. I love the vines shaped to spell 'BeBe'.
I was directed to these adorable baby shower invitations at Oh Happy Day from Design Mom. Recreating the actual invitation design is going to take some talent, something Jordan clearly has plenty of. But the idea of centering a shower around a color like yellow is a brilliant starting point for inspiration. I browsed through more of Oh Happy Day and found other non-baby shower ideas which could be easily translated, like this adorable church celebration she designed. My absolute favorite idea are these tissue paper pom-poms (instructions are here). Here is a handy 'how-to' tutorial to go with Jordan's party pictures.
I know I know, you don't feel like creating a shower from scratch but you also don't feel like celebrating with Winnie The Pooh. It took a while but I found a site for that as well. The baby shower kits at Wedding Favorites are stylish, dewy eyed teddy bear free and simple. They come with invitations, paper lanterns (cute!), paper goods, mini stickers, felt confetti (!) and favors with customized labels. I love the design of the baby animals set and I love the colors and the harlequin pattern in the mad tea party set.
If you'd rather build your shower piece by piece, take a look at these favors at Wedding Favorites. I love the tiny bird soaps and the robin's eggs as well. Plum party doesn't sell kits but they have plenty of great items to help you create the baby shower of your dreams. These felt flowers would make a non-decaying statement on your shower tables.
I also like these wishbones, but I've ordered them for our summer house party, not a baby shower. We'll force everyone to wish for our house to sell. It's win/win: they get free food and drink, we get more karmic power into the universe.

where was that rubber ducky stuff this time last year when i needed it? that centerpiece is awesome!
if only she had some great ladybug ideas!
the best baby shower game i've ever seen is the melt-different-chocolate-bars in a diaper game. participants inspect and sniff the contents and try and decide what type of candy it is. especially fun to watch the ladies who take!shower!games!very!seriously!
enjoy your trip and best of luck with the house.

So sorry I inflicted the cottonball-vaseline game on you. That was the first baby shower I'd ever been to (or planned). These ideas are much, much better.
