Do It Yourself In Kids Rooms.

I have an affinity for kids rooms, there are so many ways to have fun in these rooms because, "Hey! It's for kids!" We've talked a bit about kid's rooms before when we looked at wall art and decals. But today I thought I'd share my bookmark folder labeled "DIY Kids Rooms", and I'm sure it won't be the last time.
I love this Hopskotch rug from Flor. I love Flor tiles in general and using a few tiles, a stencil and some paint your child can develop gross motor skills even indoors.
Martha has this great article about customizing a simple toy chest for your baby, car enthusiast and doll lover. Simple ideas but it makes your toy chest so much more useful than the usual dumping ground.
I've become quite fond of Two Straight Lines because she is awfully talented. Here she gives a tutorial so you can make a butterfly mobile for your child's room. Using the steps you could easily customize this project to match your child's room. Also, while you're there take a look at her Simple Blinds tutorial.
This isn't exactly DIY but it is a bit of a hack, using iStockphoto to find illustrations to frame for your child's walls. Nested directs you to some great finds and prints start at just $10.
Why spend $155 on an art table with paper roll when you can make your own from Ikea for $15 and customize it with the help of Martha. Using dowels, cabinet knobs and various screws you can make a plain wooden table into an art table. Even better, when it's not an art table it's a great game table or tea party setting.
A place I love to collect inspiration and ideas is the "Go To Your Room" Flickr Group. A group inspired by "The Nursery: Babies Rooms At Home". It's an inspiring collection of ideas and DIY loveliness. Like this room with beautiful paper lanterns and this one with a large chalk wall.
Now to take inspiration and make it into 'action'.

Love these ideas. Any suggestions for a bizillion stuffed animals? I have given away huge trash bags full, but they seem to multiply. I have tried drawers (for the small ones), baskets (for the larger ones) and even what I had, a coat rack with multiple hooks up and down it. But nothing has "stuck" for the kids. They still end up everywhere. ACK!. Oh wait, this post started as a thank you those are some cool sites. Ooops.
