We've been talking about Thanksgiving a little for the past few weeks and it's right around the corner. I thought it might be helpful to share a few Thanksgiving bits to get you ready for the big day.
I have an ongoing dream that one day I will stand up before a large group of people and lead a prayer which will leave my friends and family speechless with a deeper and richer view into their world. Most of the time I chicken out at the last minute and simply share with my family what I'm grateful for. Which is just fine, as we discussed before, but I like a good dinner grace at Thanksgiving.
This site offers an excellent round up of cute graces your child can give at your Thanksgiving table. I think this version is awfully sweet.
Thank you for the food we eat, Thank you for the world so sweet, Thank you for the birds that sing, Thank you God for everything.
It might also be sweet to let your children create their own blessing to be shared at the table Thanksgiving night.
Sharing some Thanksgiving trivia is a great way to impress your guests. I'll start, Sarah Josepha Hale was a 19th century author who was a major force behind making Thanksgiving a national holiday. She is also the author of the classic nursery rhyme Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Many months ago we spent time sharing our very favorite kid's jokes. You may want to spend some time at this site collecting some for entertaining your kids at the table. I got the best reaction with this one.
What key has legs and can't open doors? A Turkey.
Groan.
What are your favorite Thanksgiving table traditions?

Why are turkeys bad dinner guests?
Because they gobble their food
We pretty much have the same meal prayer throughout the year:
Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
and your pies take the prize,
and may your Thanksgiving dinner
stay off your thighs!
