National Penguin Awareness Day: Celebrating With Your Kid

January 20th is National Penguin Awareness Day, a day when you should be come more familiar with the penguins in your life. No, really Penguin Awareness Day is a day to celebrate the penguin. Here are five ways you can celebrate penguins and their waddling cuteness with your little penguin fan.
Go here and watch this video with your kid. You may want to watch this one too, but maybe save it until the kids aren't around, though my kid laughed.
Read books about penguins with your kids. This book is beautifully illustrated. Each day a penguin arrives in the mail, hilarity, and, I'd imagine, city involvement follows. This sounds like a dream for my son. *Mr Popper's Penguins is another favorite penguin book around our house.
Decorate your computer in honor of penguins. You can find beautiful desktop wallpaper images from the movie March Of The Penguins here.
Eat like a penguin, or just eat a penguin. If your kids will eat sushi or seafood, have it for dinner that night. If not, just eat a penguin. Like these cream cheese penguins.
Dress up like a penguin. Check out these adorable penguin pajamas. Your kid could be a penguin every day of the week, well, except laundry day. Short of designated pajamas, try dressing in black and white.
Add to the realism by waddling at least some of the day. Or, you know, maybe let your kid do the waddling for both of you.

That's so bizarre because I just had a dream that my children and I were floating in the ocean on a piece of ice in order to see the penguins. Anyway, I was going to mention that "Penguin Dreams" (by J. Otto Seibold and VL Walsh) is a favorite around our house.

Great post -- I will pass on to my 1st grader's teacher, who does a penguin unit every year! I would also like to pass on the info contained in your recent post about snowflake making (the class will be making paper snowflakes next week) but can't get into into the post, even though I can access other previous posts. Help!
