We're handing out a slew of Nice Guy Awards today. We started earlier this year with Toys "R" Us, Hyundai, and Quaker Oats all announcing programs to assist its community and customers financially hurt by these economic times.
Today we're very pleased to recognize General Motors, Ford, JetBlue, Jos A. Bank Clothiers and Fedex Office for their recent efforts.
Following in the footsteps of Hyundai, General Motors and Ford both announced today that they too will temporarily help out customers who are financially hurt by the faltering economy.
* General Motors announced its "GM Total Confidence" program, where it will make up to nine car payments of as much as $500 each for customers who have lost their jobs through layoffs. That program starts April 1 and runs until April 30.
* Ford's program, also announced today, is the new Ford Advantage Plan which will cover payments for up to 12 months on any new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle if customers lose their jobs.
* JetBlue announced the Promise Program last month whereby it provides full refund for booked travel (up to 9 customers) to customers who experience involuntary full-time job loss. JetBlue enhanced their Promise Program this month to include vacation packages booked by June 1, 2009. Nice going guys!
* Jos A. Bank announced its "Risk Free" Suit Promotion a couple of weeks ago whereby the retailer will give money back if the customer loses his job. This first-time ever program not only will refund the price of the suit if the purchaser loses his job, but ALSO allow him to keep the suit. The special rebate offer applies to any suit (or suit separates coat plus pants) purchased during the JoS. A. Bank $199 Sale, from March 16, 2009 through April 9, 2009. If the customer involuntarily loses his job between April 16, 2009 and July 1, 2009, the program applies. Very nice.
* Fedex Office launched perhaps the most buzz-worthy of promotions (sorry to be linking to it late) with its FedEx Office Free Resume Printing Day on March 10 whereby it offered to print up to 25 copies of each customer’s resume for free. The response was overwhelmingly positive with "about 890,000 were printed, says CEO Brian Philips, who received hundreds of thank-you notes and e-mails." Hopefully they will do it again.

The Hotspot originally started out as a monthly-or-so feature written by our favorite storytellers. Usually products or services were highlighted that tickled us. Over the past year delightful innovations and introductions in the maternity and parenting space have increased, and we feel we need a space to share our discoveries with you. Daily news stories on parenting also inspire us to communicate with you. As such, the Hotspot is now the Alpha Mom daily blog. Finally!
From time-to-time we will feature products that we like. Since there is no pay for play, we only feature products that excite us. However, we do want to know about new product and service introductions and innovations so feel free to drop us a note at contact@alphamom.com.
