Our intrepid advice columnist is still on maternity leave. Here is a question she answered before her new baby, Ezra's birth, in preparation for time off with her young ones. Applause, please.

UPDATE ON: Special Occasions, Postpartum Style
Hi, I'm the woman with a new baby and my boss's wedding ...
It was this morning, and we got there just in the nick of time!!! In the end I focused on my shoes {new treat shoes!} and just went with a dress that had super secret boob access even though it didn't fit in a way that I would choose under other circumstances.
It was a good time and I was glad to get out in my nice new shoes!
Power to the babies!!
Heather
When in doubt, go for the shoes. Or the handbag. Pretty new accessories make everything better, although personally, I think that dress is REALLY damn cute.
UPDATE ON: Dungeon-Like Accommodations at the In-Laws
Hi Amy!
Thanks so much for the advice earlier this summer-- my husband voiced concerns to his parents about the baby's "allergies" and viola! We were upgraded from The Dungeon to a lovely little room upstairs. No one thought I was a snob, and no one blinked about the request for the baby. My husband's entire family has pretty bad allergies (except for our baby, ironically) so it was a very convenient excuse that had nothing to do with me and my awesome allergy-free genes. Also, when I wrote to you I goofed up which month the reunion was being held; our baby was just shy of 7 months old, rather than 9 months, at the time we went. So he was too young to crawl around and practice his pincer grasp by eating dead bugs off the floor. All problems solved!
Thanks again,
Not trapped, No Dungeon
See? Blaming the baby. It's a damn-near foolproof tactic for ALL KINDS of problems you'd like to 1) resolve without confrontation and 2) resolve firmly and definitively in YOUR FAVOR.

Love the very cute dress with super-secret nursing access. I'm due in a week and have a wedding on Dec. 6, so I'm heating up my credit card on that one pronto! (I already bought fancy new patent & leather high heel Mary Janes at DSW recently in a fit of "I am the size of a planet now & produce my own gravity, but hey, shoes still fit!")
